Poasttown Elementary School
The Poasttown Elementary School was opened in Madison Township in 1937. The new school brought students in from six surrounding schools in Madison township. The original building only contained six classrooms and a gymnasium. In 1949, the school expanded, adding several more classrooms. Again, in 1954, twelve more classrooms were added. The history of the school is mostly peaceful. Students, teachers, and other staff interacted happily within the halls of the school. There is one sad event that is said to cause some of the paranormal incidents. A little girl named Sarah was playing around the staircase on the third floor of the school when she fell over the banister to the bottom floor. She sustained a massive head injury and later died at her home. The reports are that Sarah still roams the halls interacting with the people who enter the school.
Tragedy Hits Poasttown
Even before the school was built the land was haunted by a tragic train accident. On July 4th, 1910 two trains collided on the tracks behind the location of the future school. There wasn't a hospital close enough to take the victims of the accident to, so the field was used as a triage to treat the wounded until they could be taken to Fort Hamilton Hughes Hospital. Thirty lives were claimed by the train accident, and it is believed that most still roam the lands.
The Paranormal
The owner of the school actually lives on the property, and has reported a lot of paranormal activity. There have been many investigation teams that have gone through the school, as well as mediums, searching out the spirits that are said to reside in the school. People have heard unexplained sounds, disembodied voices, doors slamming, footsteps. There have also been reports of shadowy figures roaming the halls.
The team that we took to Poasttown School was Olivia, Steve, Lucas, Brittany, and Ethan. We all had a lot of personal experiences. We were definitely shaken by various events throughout the night. We are currently working through all of our footage, audio, and photos to see what we caught during our investigation!
